Scabies on the increase as OTC treatments fail
Scabies is a tiny mite invisible to the naked eye that burrows beneath the skin causing severe discomfort and itching, especially at night.
It is highly transmissable and can quickly infest a whole family or a community like a rest home or hospital.
Traditional over the counter treatments have included synthetic pyrethrins, benzyl benzoate, lindane, crotamiton, organo-phosphate chemicals malathion as well as the neurotoxin permethrin - some of which can have serious side effects!
Not only can these treatments have potential side effects, they increasingly fail to solve the problem
For some years scientists have reported growing resistance by scabies mites to these chemical compounds as some of the eggs laid beneath the skin hatch into adults and begin the life cycle again.
Usually this is a result of not not completing the treatment, allowing a few hardy survivors to continue to breed and to pass on their resistance to future generations of mites.
Now, in some areas the only pharmaceutical that is effective is oral ivermectin, (developed originally as a veterinary medicine to control internal parasites in cattle, sheep and horses).
However there are now published studies confirming that natural products Manuka essential oil and Tea Tree oil are highly effective in controlling and eliminating scabies infestations.
Manuka Natural Ltd. in New Zealand have developed a formula of Manuka and Tea Tree oils that has been proven to control scabies, available as a cream, oil and soap which are now shipped to customers all over the world to eliminate this problem. https://www.manukanatural.com/scabies-treatment/
