Why Macadamia nut oil is used in Manuka honey cream

The macadamia nut was first discovered in Australian rainforests. Australian aboriginals have long revered the nut for its high nutritional value and benefits for healthy skin and hair. Macadamia oil has high concentrations of antioxidants and fatty acids, and is a wonderful ingredient in natural skincare products.

Macadamia nut oils are rich sources of squalene, a naturally occurring antioxidant present in human skin surface lipids that protects us from sun-induced lipid peroxidation

Macadamia Nut Oil contains one of the highest sources of Palmitoleic Fatty Acids, between 16% to 23%. Palmitoleic fatty acid is vital for delaying skin and cell aging, as our skin ages it rapidly becomes depleted in Palmitoleic Acid, and the body cannot make this.

Macadamia Nut Oil is also high in Oleic acid, Linoleic acid and phytosterols which are the building blocks of our cell membrane, these compounds have fantastic regeneration and moisturizing properties.

Phytosterols are also calming and healing, which is why the oil is perfect for repairing the skin’s barrier function.

If you eat macadamia nuts or use the oil in food preparation, you benefit your entire body, including your skin. Macadamia nuts contain approximately 80 percent monounsaturated fats, including oleic acid, which protects your heart from disease and reduces cholesterol levels. By consuming essential fatty acids, you can minimize skin conditions such as dandruff, dry skin, dry hair and brittle nails.

Macadamia is naturally high in vitamin A and vitamin E, (two vitamins that are known for their ability to heal and regenerate the skin)

Another attribute of Macadamia oil is its perfect balance of Omega-3 and Omega-6 fatty acids, it is important to consume the proper ratio of omega-3 to omega-6 fatty acids. Currently, the society that consumes the closest to this 1:1 ratio are the Japanese who have the longest life expectancy not because they eat a lot of Macadamia nuts but because they have a high fish diet and fish have a high ratio of Omega-3. In contrast 175 million Americans are reported to suffer from a chronic illness of one kind or another and their diet has the shocking ratio of up to 1:16 Omega-3 to Omega-6

Anti-inflammatory medications are some of the biggest sellers in North America. When we consume a diet that is overwhelmingly high in pro-inflammatory omega-6 fats, it is easy to see how this occurs and why we are so sick. Another reason macadamia nut oil is so good in skin repair and eczema creams because it has Omega -6 and Omega -3 in that perfect 1:1 ratio which is why we use Macadamia nut oil in our Manuka honey cream formula for troubled skin conditions like eczema dermatitis and acne treatment.
