  • Personal service that small companies provide

Manuka Natural Ltd was formed by Bill Gluyas in 2001 previously existing under the name manuhealth.com and manu.co.nz for many years.

Through personal experience of the effectiveness of Manuka honey and essential oils, and by talking to old Maori people Bill developed a website to provide Manuka products so that others around the world could benefit from the remarkable healing properties of this species.

Independent Tests Prove that Manuka essential oil and Manuka honey both have proven in-vitro antibacterial, anti-fungal and antiviral properties and it is these attributes that have led to the formulation of a range of creams, oils and soaps that are highly effective in treating a range of common skin conditions with natural Manuka ingredients.

Following great success treating troubled skin conditions, a range of beauty creams have also been developed. Manuka honey's anti-aging properties are now becoming recognised around the world and the beauty creams on the Manuka Natural website are increasing in popularity due to their gentle action on the skin and rich natural ingredients.

About Bill Gluyas

Bill studied Agricultural Science at Lincoln University in Canterbury, before working at one of New Zealand’s leading Agricultural Research facilities at Whatawhata near Hamilton for five years.

He then returned to take over management of the family farm near the famous Waitomo Caves in the King Country region of the North Island where he was introduced to the traditional medicinal uses of native plants by a prominent local Maori family.

This led to a part time study of these plants and the treatments that they could provide.

Caring About Our World

Bill become concerned about the sustainability of some rare and valuable species of native plants on his family farm because of their exposure to grazing livestock.

In 1984 he decided to protect a large block of 35 acres of native forest remnant. It was fenced off from the pasture areas and protected with a Queen Elizabeth 2nd Open Space Covenant.

The Covenant now protects this area of native forest in perpetuity, so regardless of future ownership, it will remain for future generations to enjoy and study.

In 1986 Bill Gluyas was made a Life Member of the Queen Elizabeth 2nd National Trust in recognition of his contribution to conservation.

A recent visit to this Covenant shows tremendous re-growth of all species present in the area, with parts that were previously completely open to walk through now virtually impenetrable, such is the level of regeneration in 20 years.

The development of this website has been greatly supported by the research undertaken by Dr. Peter Molan, Waikato University, Lincoln College University of Canterbury, The Microbiology department of Otago University, the Cawthron Institute in Nelson.
